The body system is a group of creatively wired engine that has separate functions but still jointly work to make a total being. Feeding the body with the right food can go a long way in helping the overall functioning of that system.

The brain is just like the powerhouse of your entire being and what is done or not done can either positively or negatively affect its function. Food plays important role in the normal functioning of the body and if vital nutrients are not taken, it can lead to mood swing and several episodes of depression.

Here we shall give foods that can help improve bad mood and help the total functioning of the body.

1. Cherry Tomatoes: this is one food that boosts the mood, it is widely available, accessible and not expensive. The full-sized round tomatoes are the cherry tomatoes, they contain an antioxidant called lycopene. Antioxidants are a group of vitamins that act against the effect of free radicals by preventing and repairing damages done to the body.

Lycopene is found in the skin of tomatoes, so a handful of cherry tomatoes will be a good food to eat. For proper absorption, some drops of olive oil can be added to make a yummy salad.


2. Grass-Fed Beef: eating beef that was organically raised is also a good mood booster. Though the grain-fed ones are okay the grass-fed are healthier and contain a very high concentration of Omega-3 fatty acids and also conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) which helps to reduce stress hormones. Grass-fed lamb is another healthy food which is rich in iron that helps with memory retention and mood stability.

3. Blue Potatoes: they are rich in the antioxidant called anthocyanins which protect the brain cells from inflammation, regulates mood and helps improve memory. If you can’t find blue potatoes, black beans and eggplant are also rich with anthocyanins. They can serve as a good alternative.

4. Spinach Salad: instead of taking coffee, go for a bowl of spinach salad. Spinach contains folic acid which helps your body to process and lowers homocysteine levels. To boost your mood you can eat other leafy vegetables.

5. Greek Yoghurt: if you are not getting enough calcium in your diet, it can lead to mood swing, depression and anxiety. Greek Yoghurt is very rich in protein, calcium, and digestion-aiding probiotics which helps the mood.

6. Green Tea: this is another healthy tea compared to coffee and other beverages. Green tea contains theanine, which calms you and helps you maintain clear concentration and focus. If you need to be calm and be in a very good mood, try sipping a cup of green tea in any of the available flavours.

7. Honey: it is no more news that table sugar or refined sugar is bad for your health and can raise even your level of mood swing. In the real sense of it, honey has more to offer than sugar will ever do, it is fully packed with inflammation-reducing compounds and depression-reducing characteristics. Add some to your oatmeal, or green tea but make sure it is in moderate proportion

8. Eggs: though we have a lot of controversial stands about whether or not egg is good for the body or not but recently, it has been shown that it has its good sides. They are packed with iodide, B vitamins, omega-3 fatty acids, and zinc; all of which have serious mood-regulating properties. Eggs are also a healthier alternative to processed grains or carb-heavy breakfasts, and there is a multitude of delicious ways to prepare them.


9. Eat Dark Chocolate: naturally, people enjoy taking chocolate for fun but there is a lot of benefits attached to snacking on chocolates.

Take dark chocolate and not milk chocolate to better your mood, it may help reduce the stress hormones that are swarming in your body. Not only will chocolate improve your mood, but it will also improve blood flow, focus, and clarity. It has the power to lower the stress hormones cortisol and catecholamines in the body, reducing your anxiety and giving you a better chance to get the job done without stress.

10. ASPARAGUS: asparagus is a good source of tryptophan a chemical that our bodies use to produce serotonin. Serotonin is a chemical in our brain that makes us feel good and regulates our mood. Not only is asparagus a great source of mood-regulating tryptophan, but it is also abundant with concentrations of folate.

11. Coconut: this is one snack people don’t really take but is very rich in a lot of nutrients that can produce a very great mood leaving you feeling good. Coconut contains plenty of nutrients that can help you feel better and push away depressed feelings. Potassium is an essential mineral for feeling good, but coconuts also contain protein and fiber, a combination that helps you feel full and keeps you regular so you’re always feeling good.
