Parenting a child from pregnancy to birth, from childhood to adulthood, is never a joke. It involves a lot. Parents must embrace both fairness and firmness as over pampering should not be allowed.
What does it mean to over pamper a child?
Treating a child with excessive care, attention, and resources, and indulging the child without disciplining and training.
An over pampered child will have the mentality of luxury and no sense of responsibility.
Dangers of Over-pampering now and in the future
1. The child will have an imbalanced life
2. He or she will not have a proper upbringing
3. The self-esteem will be unhealthy
4. The child will have an entitlement mentality
5. The child will grow up as a selfish and irresponsible adult
6. The child will expect parents and others to keep serving him or her
7. The child will grow up without a sense of reciprocating the love and care of parents because he/she sees it as a right.
8. The child will not have mental strength and thoughtfulness. Even the emotion will not be stable.
He/she will not be able to withstand challenges at all. He/she will always feel overwhelmed with any task, even the simplest one.
9. An over pampered will make poor decisions, and the old age of parents will be at stake
10. The child will raise his/her children the same and repeat the parents’ errors. His/her future home is at stake
11. An over pampered child will have an overestimated and exaggerated value of himself/herself.
7 Excuses of some parents for over pampering their children.
1. I don’t want my child to suffer what I experienced
2. He/she is my only child
3. He is my only son
4. She is my only daughter
5. It’s because of my children that I am working and labouring.
6. I can’t say no to my child’s request.
7. My child is too small to be taking care of him/herself. That’s why I have maids to help.
If you don’t do the needful now. It might be too late. The child is growing, and he/she will soon become an adult.
Over pampering and child indulgence are not a good foundation for parenting work.
Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it. Proverbs 22:6 NLT
