Acting Chief Justice’s confirmation hearing to be held on Wednesday – The Senate
The Senate President Bukola Saraki has revealed during the Tuesday’s plenary session of the Senate that the Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen whose name was sent to the house by Acting President Yemi Osinbajo will know his fate on Wednesday, 1st March.
Recall that the Senate confirmed reception of acting president Prof. Yemi Osinbajo’s confirmation letter of acting chief justice of Nigeria Justice Walter Onnoghen to the upper house of legislature last week.
In the letter, Osinbajo requested that the Senate move ahead with screening and consequent confirmation of Onnoghen as the country’s substantive chief justice.
Meanwhile, a recent report by Thisday indicates that President Muhammadu Buhari actually directed acting president Yemi Osinbajo to submit the name of Acting Chief Justice Walter Onnoghen’s name to the Senate for confirmation.
This is contrary to some media reports which claimed Osinbajo acted on his own in taking the decision.
