3 effective techniques to alleviate excessive worry
Concern is one of the most democratic feelings there is. It is within everyone’s reach and everyone can have it. Usually, it comes with big problems, small problems, fears, physical sensations and sometimes for nothing. Worry is a habit and need not be sick or any other physical or emotional pain to arise.
You do not have to be sick or in pain for worry to arise – and fear as well.
Whatever the reason, we would look at 3 very simple but effective tricks or techniques to deal with the situation and lessen the pressure of worry in the emotional and physical health. No matter what worries you, these three techniques help prevent the worry is overwhelming.
1. Treat the concern as if it were an old friend who is temporarily for a visit
When you begin to think about your health problems, they can indeed get you worried and downhearted. You would begin to skip your drug dose and ten can get your situation worsened. Treat your health conditions as a visitor who comes to spend a temporary amount of time with you and would soon leave.
If you try and do that, you would realize that you are taking the problem away and then making life easier or simpler for yourself.
2. Do not see worry as if it were part of who you are
Do not become familiar with worry taking possession of it. Take the “I” or “my” phrase that worry generates. So, instead of thinking, “My concern is …” or “I’m worried about what’s going to happen,” change the subject of the sentence.
3. Stay in the present
Consciously bring your consciousness into the present moment, into your present experience, out of the fanciful stories created by your mind. This technique works well. At that time, the emotion arises, has its peak and is naturally eliminated from the mind and body. But if it is fueled by the creation of stressful stories, the emotions will remain much longer.
To prevent disturbing or unpleasant feelings from lingering for more than 90 seconds, it is to focus on one’s own breathing entering and exiting the body. This will bring you immediately to the present and help eliminate such emotions.
This pause to leave the stories and focus on the present brings with it a sweet calm: the sweetness of resting peacefully in the wonder and mystery of being alive at this moment, even with its difficulties.
