3 HEALTHY HABITS TO TEACH YOUR CHILDREN THIS SEASON

To ensure your youngsters are prioritizing their health this summer, here’s a list of habits you can pass along to keep them from neglecting their wellness just because the school’s not in session.
3 healthy habits to teach your kids this summer

Summer’s official beginning is just a few weeks away, but the sunshine and warm temperatures haven’t been shy. You may be thrilled about the nice weather, but your kids have something to be even more excited about: a break from the school year.

To ensure your youngsters are prioritizing their health this summer, here’s a list of habits you can pass along to keep them from neglecting their wellness just because the school’s not in session:

1. Don’t sleep the day away
Without the daily alarm clock waking your kids up to get ready for school, they may be inclined to sleep in later than usual. But don’t let them burn daylight! According to the National Sleep Foundation, children between the ages of 6 and 13 need roughly 9-11 hours of sleep every night. If they’re going to bed around the same time during the summer as they were during the school year, encourage them to continue waking up early to maintain their circadian rhythm.

It’s wise to keep your kids on the same sleep schedule during the summer.
2. Curb the sweet cravings with healthy options
Warm temperatures may bring the ice cream and popsicle cravings out in your kids, but that doesn’t mean you have to give in with the dairy and refined sugar products. You can make your children a delicious sweet treat from Julie Wandling’s recipe book “Hallelujah Kids” that won’t go against your plant-based lifestyle!

3. Play outside as the weather allows
Many kids are distracted by the digital devices available to them these days, but don’t let that keep them from playing outside this summer! Encouraging your kids to get up and play outdoors keeps them active and can teach them healthy habits for the future. Perhaps you can plan to go on a hike or take a stroll through the park together once a week. Make it a family routine!

With these tips, you can help your children have a fun and safe summer vacation. As always, we recommend teaching your children God’s plan early on to begin the self-healing before any major problems occur. With His assistance, you can help your entire family lead healthy, fulfilling lives, all year long.
