40 MUSLIM WORSHIPPER KIDNAPPED DURING PRAYERS AT KATSINA

Around 40 Muslim worshippers were kidnapped in the early hour of today Monday 10th May 2021 by the so-called Bandit while observing Tahajjud prayers at a mosque in Jibiya town of Katsina State.

The Tahajjud is an uncommon Islamic prayer observed during the Holy Month of Ramadan.

Inhabitants of Jibiya town said that many men equipped with various weapons attacked the mosque around 2am and took away the worshippers without any interruption

It was reported that the bandits at first picked 47 people, including women and children, but seven later returned.

“So far, 40 people are declared missing after the incident

Another resident who volunteered a statement, Lawal Jibiya, said neighbouring villagers alerted them about the impending attack, after sighting the movements of the bandits heading towards the town.

He said many youths and neighbourhood vigilante in the town were ready and prepared to defy the bandits but unfortunately the bandits came in through other route to the town.

“We were expecting them from the eastern area through Babangida or Magama yet this time they continued past the town and set up camp at Jibawa.

“From Jibawa they at that point went around toward the western passage point close to Yunusa Dantauri Hospital and attacked a mosque on the edge of the town,” said an eye witness.

As per him, the bandits didn’t discharge a single shot of their guns until they completed the activity in order not to alert the neighbourhood security.
