40 victims of Human Trafficking Rescued in Katsina – Nigeria Immigration Service
40 victims of human trafficking have been rescued by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Katsina state Command between January and May. This was said on Tuesday after Comptroller of Immigration, Mr Muhammed Rabiu disclosed this to Journalist in Katsina.
Muhammed Rabiu said the affected persons were apprehended while trying to make a quick passage, cross Kongolon-Babban-Mutum border to the Niger Republic on a trip en route Europe. Rabiu said the victims, who were between 18 and 30 years, did not possess any valid travelling documents as required.
Rabiu said the victims were arrested at different border checkpoints. He said female victims had disguised as villagers of the border communities while attempting to cross over.
“These people don’t know the implication of going to Europe, a majority of them die on the way.
“Traffickers are criminally minded persons, they devise different means to perpetuate their acts; we are also equal to the tasks and we will continue to prevent them from travelling to Europe illegally.
He further advised that traffickers and their collaborators should have a change of mind and stop the illegal business.
Rabiu urged parents to prevent and most especially look after their children from becoming victims of human trafficking.
He said the victims had been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons for necessary action.
