Processed foods are foods that are not natural because of the chemicals that are added to it so it can last for a long period of time. Preservatives, additives and the chemicals added to these foods make them harmful as they destroy healthy enzymes, vitamins, and minerals in the body.
These chemicals are added to the food so they can last long and be sold in large amounts.
Processed food is not like the food we cook and eats fresh because of the period it is produced. Regularly eating processed food has some risk it does to the body.
Here are some of the health risk of eating processed food
Highly Addictive
Processed foods create a craving for more of it in the brain by stimulating a good feeling that causes addiction. Anyone eating these foods will think they are eating food but this food cannot be compared to real food. Substances like sugar, fat, and salt make processed addictive.
Low in Nutrients
Vitamins and minerals are replaced with synthetic nutrients in processed food. It also does not contain fibre which is a major nutrient that the body need. When food is processed, it loses some percentages of vital minerals.
Sugar content is very high
The sugar content of processed food is high and this can lead to different health conditions like obesity, diabetes, cancer and liver diseases. It is the function of the flavour that is in it. When a person eats too much, very soon calories build up and the person becomes overweight.
Contains unhealthy fats
Snacks and most processed food contain hydrogenated oil hat has a high amount of omega6 fatty acids. Too much consumption of this fatty acid makes one at risk of heart diseases.
Contains artificial ingredients
The real food we eat contains fruits, vegetables and so many ingredients that are natural and useful to the body. Processed foods contain artificial ingredients like colour, preservatives and so on. These artificial ingredients can cause lifelong sicknesses.
Increase in Weight
Addiction and craving caused by processed food can make one overeat because of the flavour it contains. When this is done over time, calories build up and it can lead to overweight.
Processed food is harmful to your health so try to reduce the intake so you can live a healthy life.
