A 50-year-old Woman has been successfully operated upon by a Team of Doctors at Orthopedic Hospital in Sokoto for a Total Knee Replacement Surgery with subsidized payment by the State Government.
The Surgery was done on both knees of the woman on the 23rd of July, 2017 in the State-owned Orthopaedic hospital, Wamakko, in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
According to the address to newsmen by The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Nuradeen Altine Aliyu, on Monday, he said the woman was suffering from Osteoarthritis or the degenerative disease on both knees. He mentioned that the Surgery which should cost N5million per knee was done for the woman for N1milion each making a total of N2million.
Aliyu said: ”The surgery would have cost her nearly N 5million per knee, totaling N 2 million for the two knees if it was done outside Nigeria. This is a great relief for her, as the cost had been highly subsidized here, compared to other places like India, Egypt or Germany.”
Dr. Balarabe Shehu Kakale, the State Health Commissioner, revealed that the hospital has equipment and experts that can provide orthopedic and other related medical services. He encouraged other prospective clients to make use of the affordable medical services available at the hospital.
He said: ”This is better than embarking on medical tourism which is more costly and highly inconveniencing. The state government will continue to support the hospital to function effectively, to bring more succor to patients in the state and other parts of Nigeria.”
