6 REASONS PEOPLE DEVELOP BELLY FAT
For many people it is inevitable. That pesky belly fat sneaks up on you before you have a chance to say “diet!” Some people are blessed with a metabolism that will keep them belly-fat-free for their entire lives, but for some people, they will have to have face the battle of the belly budge someday. With enough determination, belly fat can be reduced or held at bay through a combination of diet and exercise. Why do we even develop belly fat, to begin with? Here are 6 reasons that may help you avoid or eliminate that stubborn belly fat.

- SUGARY FOODS AND BEVERAGES

High-sugar foods include cakes and candies, along with so-called “healthier” choices like muffins and frozen yogurt. Soda, flavored coffee drinks, and sweet tea are among the most popular sugar-sweetened beverages.
Observational studies have shown a link between high sugar intake and excess belly fat. This may be largely due to the high fructose content of added sugars. Both regular sugar and high-fructose corn syrup are high in fructose. Regular sugar has 50% fructose and high-fructose corn syrup has 55% fructose.
There’s very little good to say about stress, and plenty of people could probably write a book about it if they were inclined. Busy schedules, financial problems, and demanding jobs often make up the perfect recipe for stress which releases hormones that tell the body to retain body fat.
- LACK OF SLEEP
A bad night’s sleep or not enough time devoted to getting a good night’s sleep may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about causes for weight gain, but it can be a significant factor. A study that was conducted over the course of 16 years found that women who routinely sleep five hours or less per night were 30 percent more likely to pack on 30 or more excess pounds compared to those that slept for at least seven hours.

Alcohol can have both healthful and harmful effects. When consumed in moderate amounts, especially red wine, it may lower your risk of heart attacks and strokes.
However, high alcohol intake may lead to inflammation, liver disease, and other health problems. Some studies have shown that alcohol suppresses fat burning and that excess calories from alcohol are partly stored as belly fat — hence the term “beer belly”.
Studies have linked high alcohol intake to weight gain around the middle. One study found that men who consumed more than three drinks per day were 80% more likely to have excess belly fat than men who consumed less alcohol. The quantity of alcohol consumed within a 24-hour period also appears to play a role.
There are a number of medical conditions that can make it much more difficult to shed belly fat. Hormone levels can be thrown off by thyroid disease, which can lower your metabolism. Hormones are a huge factor when it comes to your weight, and a visit to the doctor is in order if you suspect your hormone levels are out-of-whack.
