65-year-old Grandmother murdered for allegedly stealing Cocoa pods

A 65-year-old grandmother identified as Mary Ogundiran has been killed by a cocoa farmer for allegedly stealing cocoa pods on his farm in Ofosu area in Ondo state.

The suspected killer has been apprehended by police detectives. He alleged that late Ogundiran had plucked cocoa pods in his farm without his authorization.

The suspect said the 65-year-old grandmother had been stealing cocoa pods regularly on his farm despite his several warnings which she didn’t yield to.

After a formal complaint was lodged, by the relations of the victim, who absolved her of stealing as alleged by the suspect was later picked by detectives.

Also arrested during the parade were three members of a cult group known as Arobaga. One of the suspects of the fraternity who was accused of raping a 17-year-old girl said he was forcefully initiated into the cult group.

Speaking on the arrests, the Police Commissioner of Ondo State, Gbenga Adeyanju,  said in Akure that the Command was doing everything possible to rid the state of criminals, adding that the suspects would be charged to court after completion of investigations, to serve as a deterrent to others.
