Kogi State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Bolanle Amupitan, has emphasized the commitment of the state governor, Governor Yahaya Bello and his led administration to ensuring the welfare of children in the state.
Amupitan emphasized more on her stance on the implementation of the domesticated Child Right Act (CRA) by the administration, which she argued, had brought some orderliness to the operation of orphanage homes across the state.
Speaking to Journalists on Thursday, Amupitan said a forum her ministry organized in collaboration with a non-governmental organization, Smiles, is working in conjunction with security operatives in the state to prosecute illegal operators of orphanages.

The commissioner noted that about 706 children still remained unclaimed in the 18 registered orphanage homes there is in the state.
While expressing her worry over the increase of motherless babies’ home across the state, she warned that children in the orphanage homes may risk being forfeited to the state government for possible legal adoption processes if none of their relations visit them after a period of one year.
Amupitan however, expressed optimism that with the renewed vigour by the Governor Yahaya Bello led administration to fight the cause of children which has resulted to the resuscitation of Kogi State Children Parliament, stories of child labour, abduction and trafficking would soon end.
