The are some interesting facts you never expected there is to know about the Hausa people. Majorly known for their great enterprising spirit, the Hausa communities have a high esteem,  sense of community relationships and are quick at proffering solutions to a common ethnic or communal problems.

The Hausa origination can be attributed to the West Chadic languages subgroup of the Chadic languages group, which in turn is part of the Afroasiatic language family. It is one great reason why we have more of the Chadians in Nigeria where Hausa people are in abundance.

Research gathered indicated that there are about 70 million speakers (with no restriction to the northerners alone) in Nigeria but with the large chunk from North West, North East and North Central.

The Hausa people are great and interesting people to be with but injustice will bleed from my pen if I fail to tell you some 9 interesting facts about the Hausa people.

 

  1. The Hausa language is widely spoken

Being the language with the largest speakers, the Hausa language is spoken as a first language by over 35 million people and as a second language by millions in Nigeria.

 

  1. The Hausa language cut across several other Countries in Africa

For those who may not know, the Hausa language and its people cut across several African countries. Countries such as Benin, Ghana, Togo, Ivory Coast Cameroon.

 

  1. Most Hausa people in Nigeria are Muslims

Due to the great influence of Muslim merchants and clerics in the 19th century, Islam became a known religion first in present day Borno and eventually Kano, Katsina and gradually to other states in the federation.
