Have you ever found yourself tuning out of conversations to get your scroll on? Do you check your feed at every waking moment? Do you find it really hard to stay some minutes without checking your phone? Then you are addicted. If there is anything that the abuse can break a home, it is social media. The excessive use of facebook, snapchat, WhatsApp, twitter or Instagram have become so rampant now that people are no more concentrating on its negative effect on their lives and families. Spending too much time on social media can affect your health because there is no movement. For anything to be managed effectively in life, moderation is key.

Here are 9 ways to stop the addiction caused by social media:

  1. Admit There Is A Problem: the first step to help you out of this addiction is to admit that you have a problem. Until you admit that there is a problem you won’t successfully get out of it
  2. Set Boundaries: setting boundary will help you a great deal. All you have to do is to be discipline. Have a set time to visit social media and let it be because it is really important to get information.
  3. Manage Notifications: if you check your notification icon, you will see on and off. It will be in your best interest to turn off notifications as leaving it on could cause you to keep checking your phone at intervals. Turning off notifications will prevent you from stopping important things just to check what has just entered your phone
  4. Sanitize Your Friends And Group List: this is very important to help you manage your time well. Check through your media page for the people who are not really adding value to you and unfriend them. Also, check the groups you have joined to see the ones you are not active and leave
  5. Have A Social Media Free Zone: you might want to consider having a social media free zone, this could be your bedroom, toilet or whichever one is convenient for you in your home or even at work
  6. Delete Social Media Games And Apps From Your Phone: this will go a long way to help you in cutting the time spent on social media. It will prevent you from the temptation to surf the net when you don’t really have to
  7. Render Your Account Inactive: deleting social media apps might require that you re-install whenever you want to check anything but a better option is to just deactivate your account.
  8. Try Reading: to prevent the urge of going to social media, get a book and read. Reading is more productive than using social media incessantly. By reading you get your mind renewed and active
  9. Spend Time With Family And Friends: life is all about people especially those that add to your life. So, spend quality time with your families and friends. Time spent with these people is a treasured moment.
