The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Lagos, Major General Enobong Udoh, has given a reassurance that the existing cordial relationship between him and an Air Force Commander reduced bureaucracy and led to the remarkable Air Support in the North East that enabled his battalion easily recapture the townships of Mungono and Baga from Boko Haram Insurgents. This pronouncement is coming just as the Chief of Air Staff relocated to Maiduguri to coordinate and intensify search operations for the missing Dapchi Girls.

The GOC gave these assurances when the newly appointed Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command Ikeja, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Remigus Nnamdi Ekeh upon assumption of office, paid him a customary familiarization call at Headquarters 81 Division Nigerian Army Victoria Island Lagos, on February 28, 2018. General E Udoh who stated that he also recently assumed office as the GOC, stressed that inter-service and interagency jointness and collaboration cannot be overemphasized in the battle against security challenges in Lagos and across the country.

Speaking further on the impact of jointness on a successful mission, he reminisce that “In fact at end of my advance to recapture Mungono, we had a victory parade, my soldiers were just shouting – Oga we have never seen this kind of Air Support before, Oga we have never seen this kind of Air Support before.”  This he stressed “that was because of the relationship between the advancing Commanders”.

He said, “With personalities involved, professional inhibitions in dictating policies and centralized command can be put aside if the personalities involved understand themselves”. Calling for closer collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force, he said “operationally, we cannot conduct any operation without your support, in fact this is not a matter of seeking further collaboration, it is a matter of duty”.

The GOC reiterated that the Security Services including the Army, Air Force and Navy have given the mandate to collaborate and synergize at inter-agency level to keep Lagos safe “We have been given the mandate last year, we don’t need anybody to say go and give police backup, we have the platform for doing so… and we are ready to make Lagos too hot for criminals”.

The Security Chief promised to implement some inter-agency tradition he imbibed while on a tour of duty at the Niger Delta Region in Lagos to reduce constant inter-service bickering to the barest minimum and reassure the good people of Lagos of the safety of lives and properties.

“There are various platforms upon which we can work together to foster inter-agency synergy operations and collaborations like route march, quarterly meetings just like in the Niger Delta, joint patrols, confidence building patrols for the people to know that we are actually defending their interests. Every month the services will come together across ranks in what we call multi-agency solidarity happy hour. It is impactful, it builds congeniality. With this platform, synergy will sink to the last man”, he said.

Similarly, the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command, Rear Admiral Ofodili while receiving the AOC at the Naval Training Command Apapa assured him of maximum cooperation saying “Jointness is something we must do, you don’t really need to ask for our cooperation, we must ensure that there is peace, that the environment is conducive for people who engage in legitimate endeavor to do their businesses. I am sure your predecessor has told you how the Army and Air Force have been fighting all those criminals from Ikorodu to the creeks and other areas”, he maintained.
