Egypt has been awarded the right to host the 2019 African Nations Cup finals after beating her rival South Africa in the bid which took place between the two bidders to replace original hosts Cameroon.
Egypt won the support of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee after they voted in favour of the North African nation at a meeting in Dakar‚ Senegal on Tuesday.
Having secured 16 votes against rival South Africa who had only 1 vote, Egypt will now replace the original host Cameroon who lost the right due to serious delays in their preparations
Both South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordan and general secretary Russell Paul had earlier claimed that the vote would be more of politics than merit.
SAFA were confident that they had the infrastructure and know-how to host the expanded 24-team tournament‚ but couldn’t secure enough vote to get the hosting right
