Arabic teacher remands in prison over alleged defilement of female student

A 30 year- old Arabic teacher, Ashimiyu Shittu, was on Thursday, ordered to be remanded at Agodi prison by Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ court in Ibadan over an alleged defile of one of his Arabic female student.

The suspect who resides at Kara council, Egbeda area, Ibadan was facing a one count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge.

The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Fatola, told the court that Shittu committed the offence on Nov. 14, about 5 p.m at Egbeda area, Ibadan by having unlawful carnal knowledge of an 11- year old student.

Fatola said the accused lured the minor into his room and had ‘’carnal knowledge of her without her consent.”

According to Fatola, the offence contravened section 218 of the Criminal Code Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo state 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Modina Akanni who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered him to be remanded in Agodi prison pending the outcome of the legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

She, however, adjourned the case till Jan.12 for hearing.
