An 18-year-old man appeared before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo, South Africa, and was remanded in custody on Friday after being accused of sexually assaulting his 10-year-old disabled biological brother.

The alleged incident took place on February 26 at Ga-Kopa in Tafelkop, within the Motetema area of Limpopo, while the children’s mother was away attending a funeral.
The matter came to light several days later, when the mother noticed her younger son appeared to be in pain during bath time.
The 10-year-old boy then disclosed to his mother that his older brother had sexually violated him.
The mother reported the case to Motetema Police Station the same day she learned of the disclosure, and police arrested the 18-year-old suspect immediately.
The case was transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Groblersdal for further investigation.
The court postponed the matter until March 18 to allow time for a formal bail application by the accused.
Malesela Ledwaba, speaking on behalf of the police, confirmed the sequence of events leading to the arrest and court appearance.
Thembi Hadebe, the provincial police commissioner, strongly condemned the alleged crime.
“This crime allegedly committed by a biological brother against a vulnerable child is particularly shocking. Parents and guardians must report this type of heinous incident immediately to the police, regardless of who the perpetrator is,” She said.
