“If you don’t want the baby, you can walk into the social welfare office or any nearest police station and we will assist you. Instead of abandoning these children, come to us and we will help you,” said SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command.

She was speaking about a newborn baby boy who was found abandoned and wrapped in a nylon bag in Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
The police rescued him on Monday, November 2, 2026, and took him to hospital for medical attention after finding him in a critical condition.
Adeh disclosed this in a video shared on Facebook on Tuesday. She said the baby had bruises on his hand and one of his arms, and that the police were making efforts to ensure he received proper medical care.
“We picked this baby in a very bad condition. This baby is a baby boy. The baby boy was abandoned, wrapped in a nylon bag, and he was badly injured,” she said.
She said the baby had been taken to hospital and would subsequently be handed over to social welfare officials.
The police are now trying to find his mother.
Adeh urged residents of Bwari to report any information about the baby’s mother to the nearest police station or to contact the FCT Police Command’s Gender Officer on 08036259662.
She also appealed to residents to provide information about any woman who had recently been pregnant but could no longer be seen with a newborn.
Addressing women dealing with unwanted pregnancies, Adeh urged them to seek assistance from social welfare offices or the nearest police station rather than abandon their babies.
She added that there were people willing to care for children, and urged mothers facing difficult circumstances to seek help rather than expose newborns to danger.
