The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 29 year old woman, Edeh Osinachi, for allegedly abusing and inflicting serious injuries on her 17 year old house help in Awka, the state capital.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, February 4, 2026. According to him, the suspect allegedly used a hot pressing iron to torture the teenager.
The victim reportedly told authorities that the abuse began after she used her guardian’s phone to make calls without permission.
Police said the suspect was handed over to the Command by the Anambra State Ministry of Education on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
The statement explained that during a teaching session, school officials noticed severe injuries on the girl’s body and immediately raised concern. When questioned, the student revealed that the injuries were inflicted by her guardian as punishment for using her phone without consent.
According to the victim, Mrs Osinachi, angered by the incident, allegedly pressed a hot iron on her body. During police interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the act.
The Police Command commended the vigilance of the school authorities and assured the public that a thorough investigation would be carried out and justice served in line with the law.
The Command also advised parents to have only the number of children they can adequately care for, noting that leaving children in the care of others can sometimes expose them to abuse.
