Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City has expelled several students after a viral video showed a student being assaulted and bullied inside a classroom, punched, kicked in the stomach and stamped on the head and ribs by fellow students.

The school’s management released a statement on Friday night confirming the students responsible had been identified and expelled following an immediate internal investigation.
In its statement, the school described the incident as ‘deeply disturbing’ with the management saying such behaviour violated the institution’s values and standards of a strict zero-tolerance policy toward bullying, cultism, intimidation, harassment and any form of violence within its community.
Management said the safety and wellbeing of students remain the institution’s priority.
The school confirmed that support is being provided to the affected student, while the school works closely with the family to address the matter.
The incident has also been reported to authorities, as the school said it is cooperating fully with the police, since the students involved are minors.
The Edo State Police Command spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said authorities had seen the video but require a formal report from the victim’s family before commencing a full investigation into the case.
