Bauchi Police Arrest Woman After Co-Wife Dies in Domestic Incident

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 33-year-old housewife, Hauwa’u Haruna, after her 43-year-old co-wife, Jamila Adamu, died following an alleged attack at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate in Bauchi.

The incident occurred at about 4:05pm on September 27, 2026, after the C-Division, Bauchi, received a report of a domestic incident involving the two women, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement issued on Monday.

Police said detectives attached to the division were immediately deployed to the scene following the report.

According to Habib, preliminary investigation indicated that Haruna, the second wife, allegedly picked up a pestle and struck Adamu on the forehead, leaving her unconscious.

The statement read, ‘Preliminary investigation revealed that the second wife, one Hauwa’u Haruna, 33 years old, allegedly acting under hallucinations, armed herself with a pestle and struck the first wife, one Jamila Adamu, 43 years old, on the forehead. Consequently, the victim fell unconscious.’

Adamu was taken to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where a medical doctor certified her dead, according to the police.

Habib said, “The scene was documented, and the victim was rushed to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi, where she was certified dead by a medical doctor. Her corpse has been deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.”

The police said Haruna was arrested and the pestle allegedly used in the attack was recovered as an exhibit.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution, Habib said.

The command also expressed condolences to the bereaved family and urged families to seek support when members experience mental health difficulties.

‘The CP condoles with the bereaved family and cautions the public against domestic violence, while advising families to seek timely medical and psychosocial support for members exhibiting mental health challenges,' the statement added.
