A 16-year-old girl has received justice after a Federal High Court in Damaturu sentenced a 20-year-old man to seven years in prison for procuring her and having sexual intercourse with her.

The convict, Dauda Umaru, was also ordered to pay N1.5m. Of that, N1m goes into the Victim Trust Fund Account, and N500,000 is compensation to the victim.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) disclosed the ruling in a statement on its official Facebook page on Wednesday.
The statement read: ‘A Federal High Court sitting in Damaturu, Court 2, presided over by Hon. Justice Aisha Y. ‘He was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment and ordered to pay N1,000,000 into the Victim Trust Fund Account and N500,000 as compensation to the victim.
‘Failure to pay the fine will attract an additional seven months’ imprisonment.’
