Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has urged women to exercise caution when selecting life partners, warning against men with overly flattering speech.

The advice was delivered on May 1, 2026, during the monthly Holy Ghost Congress programme.
Adeboye cautioned women to be intentional in avoiding “smooth orators” whose words may mask insincerity.
"So, when brother comes, and begins to talk about your body, run! What do I say?
He shared a personal anecdote from his pre-conversion days to illustrate the dangers of seductive flattery."Don't marry a brother if he's tongue is too sweet. I hope my daughters are listening. I will tell you a story. I was a bad boy before I got born again. Something happened (and) I only understood after I got born again. There was this beautiful lady, and I was making some plans.
"'Hello lady,' and she smiled, of course. And the next thing was, 'You teeth are as white as snow...' She smiled further. 'And as I'm looking at your eyes, it's as taking a look at the full moon'. 'Oh my, oh my, your skin is as polished as ebony. All of a sudden, she did something strange. She turned around and began to run.'What's wrong with you? Where are you running to?'
"Now I know - The Bile say, 'Flee!'
He later interpreted the incident through the biblical lens of fleeing temptation.
He advised women to run when a man excessively praises their physical attributes.
The pastor also warned against men who claim divine revelation that a woman is destined to be their wife.
"Any one who comes to you and says, 'Thus sayeth the Lord, you are goiing to be my wife...' Say, 'Is that so? Ok, sir, Do you believe in holiness?' He would say. 'Of corse, I'm a child of God! But you know, I'm still a man...' You will pin him and he will say, 'Com'on, I'm ordinary flesh..' and that is where the commandment says, 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery.' If he does not live in holiness, run! I know what I'm talking about.
He encouraged testing such claims by inquiring about their commitment to holiness, emphasizing that any man unwilling to uphold holiness should be avoided.
