Edo Police Arrest Stepfather Over Alleged Repeated Defilement of Six-Year-Old Girl

A family in Edo North is grappling with the arrest of a stepfather accused of repeatedly abusing a young child under his own roof, as police say the six-year-old victim is now receiving medical care while investigations continue.

The suspect, 57-year-old Kadiri Edenokun of Jattu, Auchi, was arrested over the alleged defilement of his stepdaughter, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem.

‘The command has arrested a suspect over the alleged defilement of his six-year-old stepdaughter. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the offence multiple times,’ the statement read.

The child is currently being cared for by the Edo State Ministry of Women Affairs.

‘The child is currently receiving medical treatment under the care of the Ministry of Women Affairs, Edo State. The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,’ Ikoedem said.

Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, responded to the case with a stern warning, stressing that the command would not tolerate sexual violence, particularly against children, and urged parents and members of the public to remain vigilant, adding that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

In a separate development, Ikoedem said operatives had recovered a second stolen vehicle linked to a robbery at the residence of Hon. Kennedy Odion, state chairman of the African Democratic Congress, in Benin City on September 6, 2026.

Acting on credible intelligence, a black Toyota Highlander with registration number LSR 729 HY was tracked and recovered along 3rd Cemetery Street, off New Lagos Road, New Benin, by the Violent Crime Response Unit.

‘The command remains firmly on the trail of the perpetrators, with efforts ongoing to recover the remaining stolen items and apprehend all those responsible,’ Ikoedem added.

The command has also called on members of the public to come forward with timely and credible information on suspicious persons, movements or activities, as part of its broader effort to protect families and communities across the state.
