Lucy Harrison, a vibrant 23-year-old fashion buyer from Warrington, Cheshire, had traveled to Prosper, Texas, with her boyfriend Sam Littler to spend the holidays with her father Kris Harrison and his new family. Kris, who moved to the US when Lucy was young, welcomed them warmly, but Lucy often grew upset when her father discussed his gun ownership, a topic that clashed with her views.
On the morning of January 10, 2025, as the couple prepared to fly home, a discussion about news coverage on Donald Trump turned explosive.
Sam Littler told Cheshire Coroner's Court that Lucy and Kris had a "quite a big argument" over sexual assault allegations against Trump.
Lucy challenged her father, "How would you feel if I was sexually assaulted?"
Kris reportedly replied he had two other daughters living with him, so it "...would not upset him that much," leaving Lucy distraught and running upstairs.
About half an hour before departure, Kris took Lucy by the hand and led her to his ground-floor bedroom.
Sam heard a loud bang seconds later, followed by Kris screaming for his wife Heather.
Rushing in, Sam found Lucy on the floor near the bathroom entrance while Kris screamed "nonsense."
Police officer Luciana Escalera later noted the smell of alcohol on Kris's breath, and CCTV showed him buying two 500ml cartons of Chardonnay shortly before 13:00 CST.
Kris Harrison did not attend the inquest but provided a statement through representative Ana Samuel.
He explained they had watched a news item on gun crime when he mentioned owning a gun and offered to show it.
He led her to the bedroom to retrieve a Glock 9mm semi-automatic from his bedside cabinet, bought years earlier for "a sense of security" for his family.
"As I lifted the gun to show her I suddenly heard a loud bang. I did not understand what had happened. Lucy immediately fell."
He could not recall if his finger was on the trigger and admitted a "brief lapse" into alcohol that day due to emotions over her leaving, having previously attended rehab.
Lucy, a Manchester Metropolitan University graduate described as beautiful and confident, died from a medium-range gunshot to the chest.
No criminal charges followed after a Collin County grand jury declined to indict Kris, ruling it accidental.
