FCT Police Rescue Four-Year-Old, Arrest Two Suspected Child Traffickers in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested two suspected child traffickers and rescued a four-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted in Kuje, Abuja.

The suspects, identified as Rose Daniel and Blessing John, were arrested on August 27, 2026, while allegedly attempting to flee with the child, identified as Ummi Mariam Abdullah.

Confirming the development to newsmen, the FCT Police Command's spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the suspects were apprehended after a concerned member of the community who witnessed the incident alerted the police, prompting operatives to respond swiftly, rescue the girl and arrest the two women.

Adeh said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects had previously been arrested in December 2025 and arraigned before a court in connection with a similar offence, and that they were subsequently convicted and released on bail after spending about five months in prison.

She said the pair had returned to trafficking children almost as soon as they regained their freedom.

Adeh mentioned that further investigation revealed that since their release, the suspects have abducted and trafficked four children to different parts of the country, with the most recent case involving two children who were taken to a regular accomplice in Port Harcourt, identified only as Madam Ijeoma, who purchased the children for the sum of N1.5 million each.

She said the rescued four-year-old girl has since been reunited with her family, while the two suspects remain in police custody as the investigation continues, adding that they will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Adeh urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and intentional about the safety and whereabouts of their children and wards at all times.
