A 44-year-old Florida mom, Monika Rubacha. shot her two young children to death before turning the gun on herself in a horrific murder-suicide as authorities searching for answers about what drove the act.

Manatee County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Randy Warren told FOX 13 News.
"Right away, you could tell something wasn’t right. There were signs of homicidal violence."
He added to WFLA, "I can tell you that this is a violent scene. It’s horrible to even imagine what would have been going through the mind of this mother that led up to this."
Deputies responded around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2026, to a welfare check at a home in the 8200 block of Pavia Way in the exclusive Lake Club gated community after the children's father, Richard James, who was on a business trip in South America, grew worried after more than a day without contact from his family.
Inside the luxury residence, officers discovered the deceased mother alongside her children, 14-year-old Josh James and 11-year-old Emma James, each in separate rooms with traumatic injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.
Investigators determined Rubacha killed her son and daughter in separate parts of the house before committing suicide, with evidence suggesting planning was involved and Josh may have died earlier than his sister and mother.
No other individuals has been determined to be involved, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, authorities confirmed, ruling out any external suspects in this isolated family tragedy.
Neighbors in the affluent area described the family as seemingly picture-perfect from the outside amid manicured lawns and multimillion-dollar homes valued up to $2.4 million.
The medical examiner has yet to release final causes of death, but preliminary findings point to firearms as the method in this double homicide followed by suicide.
