Four Qur'anic school pupils, known as Almajiris, have died in Kano State after reportedly eating food suspected to have been contaminated.

The pupils were students of Malam Iliyasu Mai Tsangaya, located in Kadage Sharifai, within the Ungoggo Local Government Area of the state.
They fell ill after the suspected food poisoning and were rushed to Malam Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for treatment. Despite efforts to save them, the students did not survive.
‘The students, however, reportedly died at the hospital on Sunday night, August 16th, 2026,’ a statement confirming the incident said.
The statement was issued on Monday by the National Chairman of the Tsangaya Media Network, Alaramma Sani Musa Nuhu.
It did not specify what food the pupils had eaten or identify the substance believed to have caused the poisoning, leaving key details about the circumstances of their deaths unclear.
Following the deaths, the bodies of the students were buried after clearance was granted by the District Head (Dagaci) and the Divisional Police Officer.
As of the time of filing this report, the police had not issued any official statement on the incident.
