Ghana authorities have arrested 93 Nigerians over alleged cybercrime and human trafficking in Accra, rescuing 73 other Nigerians who were reportedly subjected to torture and abuse during the same operation.

The rescued victims have already been repatriated to Nigeria by the Ghana Immigration Service, according to report from ABC NEWS Ghana onTuesday.
Among those arrested were 91 men and two women, found during the raids on properties in Accra, who will be facing charges related to cybercrime and immigration violations.

The arrests happened after coordinated operations in six houses at the residential DEVTRACO Estate, in accra, targeting a network, believed to be involved in internet fraud and the unlawful detention of people.
Deputy Superintendent of Immigration, Newman Akuffo, led the team from the GIS National Operations Unit recovering 82 laptops, 57 mobile phones, 17 television sets, counterfeit US dollars, and fake gold bars.
These items were believed to have been used in fraudulent schemes by the group.
'The operation demonstrates our commitment to rooting out criminal networks exploiting our communities,' Akuffo said.
Preliminary investigations showed that several suspects had entered Ghana through unauthorised border routes while other suspects had overstayed their 90-day visa-free entry that is normally granted to Nigerians visiting the country.
The Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service warned that violators face prosecution under Ghana’s Human Trafficking Act, 2005 (Act 694) which set penalties of five to 20 years in prison, and cases with children or serious aggravating factors can result in life imprisonment.
