Police in Lusaka rescued Titus Kamanga from a furious mob baying for his blood after his second wife allegedly drowned his two young children in the Ngwerere River.

The tragedy unfolded on Wednesday February 25 2026 in Meanwood Kwamwena Phase 4 when 26 year old Mary Kachilika, married to Kamanga since January 10 2025, reportedly threw his six year old and two year old children from his first wife Fanny Kanyinji into the water.
Kanyinji was outside doing chores while the kids ate inside; she heard cries, rushed to the river, and found Kachilika being chased by a fisherman who witnessed the act and apprehended her.
Preliminary investigations by Zambia Police Service point to jealousy as motive, as Kachilika had no children of her own while her co wife did.
Deputy Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha confirmed in statements that the suspect remains in custody at Chelstone Police Station for alleged murder, with ongoing probes.
As word spread, angry residents swarmed Kamanga's home, shouting blame at the visibly shaken father for his second marriage and demanding answers.
Police formed a barrier, bundled him into a vehicle, and drove him away as the crowd surged threateningly.
Kamanga had been at work during the incident, leaving the household vulnerable.
Search efforts involving Zambia Police, Army marine forces, and Chongwe Council Fire Brigade recovered the body of the six year old boy.
