A man has been arrested in Kaduna State in connection with the death of his girlfriend, following a domestic dispute that police say began over a phone call from another woman.
The suspect, identified as Manaseh Bitrus Jatau, was traced and arrested at his workplace, Tomato Jos Company, in the Maraban Jos area of Kaduna, after investigators established that he was the last person to contact the deceased, asking her to meet him at Ebano Joint in Romi.
The victim, Rebecca Ojonike Jeremiah, 35, of Karatudu Area, Kaduna, was found dead on September 5, her lifeless body discovered along Mai Angwa Street, Romi, with cotton wool stuffed in her nose.
Police detectives from Romi Outstation responded to the scene and rushed her to St. Gerald Hospital in Kakuri, Kaduna, where a doctor confirmed she had died.
Her body was subsequently deposited at the hospital mortuary for an autopsy.
Under interrogation, Jatau reportedly admitted to fighting with Jeremiah in his room after she received a call from another woman, a confrontation that led to her death.
He further confessed to dumping her body in an open field near his house in a bid to cover up what had happened.
Confirming the arrest to newsmen, Kaduna State Police Command spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan said the suspect is currently in police custody, and the case is being investigated and will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigation.
