A 43 year old man in Oyo State has been arrested for allegedly beating his elder brother to death with a heavy rock over a bizarre claim that the victim shot him in a dream the previous night, according to the Oyo State Police Command.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of a tragic incident reported at the Ago Amodu Divisional Police Headquarters Sepeteri,' the statement from DSP Ayanlade Olayinka read.
'One Badmus Yunisa (m) of Alegunlode Compound Sepeteri, reported that Lateef Suleiman( m) aged 43 years, attacked his elder brother Mustapha Amidu (m) aged 52 years, following an accusation that the deceased had shot him in a dream while he was asleep the previous night.
'Acting on this claim, the suspect allegedly approached the deceased where he was seated, picked up a heavy rock struck him on the head and fled the scene immediately,' the police spokesperson added.
Bystanders rushed the victim to Ileri Oluwa Hospital in Sepeteri, where a doctor on duty confirmed his death shortly after arrival.
Suleiman was quickly tracked down and arrested by operatives from Ago Amodu Division.
He has since confessed to the crime and is cooperating fully with investigators as confirmed in the police statement.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, (SCID) on the directive of Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna for thorough probe with authorities vowing to pursue justice diligently.
