A man identified as Emmanuel Etim allegedly doused his mother with petrol.

He set her on fire following accusations that she was responsible for the death of his daughter through witchcraft.
The incident occurred on Friday, August 14, 2026, in Ojuah, Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.
It was gathered that Etim arrived at his mother's house shortly after his daughter died earlier that day.
He confronted his mother, Mrs Atim Eyo, accusing her of causing the child's death and demanding to know what he had done to warrant such an act.
The confrontation reportedly turned violent when Etim rose from his chair and attempted to strangle his mother.
As she screamed for help, one of her daughters intervened, struggling with Etim until he released his grip.
Freed from his hold, the victim tried to flee the scene.
However, Etim allegedly poured fuel on her and set her ablaze.
Neighbours who witnessed the attack rushed in to help, managing to put out the flames before taking the victim to hospital for treatment.
The matter has since been reported to the police in Akamkpa, though Etim and members of his family are said to be at large as of the time of this report.
The circumstances surrounding the death of Etim's daughter, which allegedly triggered the attack, remain unclear.
