A tragic incident in St. Cloud, Minnesota, has prompted Republican gubernatorial candidate Dr. Jeff Johnson to suspend his 2026 campaign following the death of his 22‑year‑old daughter, officials confirmed.

According to the St. Cloud Police Department, officers responded to a medical emergency on the evening of Saturday, February 7, at an apartment on 40th Avenue South, where they found Hallie Marie Tobler with multiple stab wounds.
Authorities said she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband, 23‑year‑old Dylan Michael Tobler, was also found injured.
Police believe his wounds were self‑inflicted and that he is the suspected perpetrator of the stabbing.
He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition and is expected to be charged in connection with the homicide after his medical treatment.
In a statement on Monday, the Minnesota Republican Party said the loss has been devastating for the family and that no words can fully express their sorrow.
Out of respect for his family during this difficult time, Johnson has paused his campaign for governor and asked Minnesotans to keep his family in their thoughts and prayers.
The candidate served previously on the St. Cloud City Council, and his decision to step back from the race underscores the personal toll the tragedy has taken on him and his loved ones.
Officials continue to investigate the case, and the community has been urged to respect the family’s privacy as the legal process unfolds.
