A Nigerian woman, Umeozor Chinwe Stephanie, has opened up about the alleged physical and emotional abuse she endured in her marriage.

Stephanie, who shared her story in a Facebook post on Friday, August 20, 2026, recalled an incident when her husband allegedly punched her repeatedly just a month and two weeks after she gave birth.
"I never knew what it felt like and how painful it is to be beaten by who you accepted to do life with until it happened to me," she wrote. "Nobody spoke about the physical abuse nor the emotional abuse I went through in my years of marriage."
Sharing photos from the alleged incident, she noted that years of bottled-up emotions can profoundly change a woman's appearance and affect her health.
"The emotions that have been bottled up in years you feel are not enough to affect the look of a woman?" she asked.
According to her, she was falsely accused of using charms to make her ex-husband marry her and was subsequently thrown out.
"Can a woman who charmed a man to marry her be beaten like this? Will she be thrown out of what's rightfully hers? I was accused of many more; avoid manipulative people cause they will never be accountable for what they did," she wrote.
Describing the photos further, she said: "This was me with my face after I received punches from my ex husband at one month and two weeks postpartum. Omoh see where man dey throw me punch like him dey fight his fellow man."
She added that she believed divine intervention helped her survive the assault.
"God gave me strength that day if not I for die cause eye wey turn me for land me for ground but I stand gidigbam," she wrote. "No woman deserve to be with a woman beater and an abuser."
Stephanie added that sharing her story is part of her healing journey since she cannot currently afford a therapist.
"I'm healing, is a gradual thing and this is the process since I can't afford a therapist," she wrote.
