When, Carolyn Njeri Muiruri, began shedding weight rapidly, dropping from 73kg to 59kg in under three months, she believed it was progress until persistent cough, night sweats and stubborn pain suggested otherwise.

Despite visiting several local clinics with no improvement, it was her mother’s intuition and refusal to ignore troubling signs that turned the tide.
She urged Carolyn to seek specialist care at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where a CT scan confirmed pulmonary tuberculosis, a diagnosis that may have come too late if not for that decisive choice.
Family’s Christmas Nightmare Helped Create Vaccine
Carolyn was enrolled in intensive TB treatment in November 2025, taking 13 tablets daily.
The regimen triggered harsh side effects, including swelling, painful heels and skin peeling, forcing her back to the hospital for reassurance and an adjusted treatment plan.
Doctors confirmed these reactions were known risks and kept her care on track.
With family support and careful medical supervision, she has now reduced to four tablets a day, regained strength and stabilised at 63kg.
