• Pastor cautions against wives carrying the family’s financial burden for extended periods, stating it will negatively impact the marriage
• Asserts that women are 'not built' for long-term financial provision and often lack the necessary wisdom to handle that phase
A video clip from a sermon by Nigerian clergyman Pastor Lawrence Onochie has rapidly spread across social media platforms, drawing widespread attention for his cautionary advice to men on family finances.

In the circulating footage, Pastor Onochie warns that allowing a wife to shoulder the household’s financial responsibilities for an extended period can strain or damage the marriage, regardless of her character or devotion.
“I don’t care how supportive your wife is. If she carries the burden - the financial burden of the house for too long - it will take its toll on your marriage,” Pastor Onochie said.
He continued: “I don’t care how supportive, how godly she is. I don’t care how much she loves you. Why? She’s not built for it. And unfortunately, most women don’t have the wisdom required in that phase of their relationship.”
The pastor explained that women in such situations often experience genuine stress but may struggle to express it constructively. “They are feeling genuine stress, but they don’t know how to communicate it well so that their communication can build, not destroy,” he noted.
Pastor Onochie urged men to take intentional steps to rebuild their finances and fulfill their provider role, citing scripture: “Whether you like it or not, you have to provide. God has put you in that space. In fact, scripture says a man who cannot provide for his family is worse than an infidel and has denied the faith.”
