In a heartbreaking revelation that has deepened public outrage over alleged police brutality in Delta State, the mother of 28-year-old aspiring musician Oghenemine Ogidi (popularly known as OG Millan or Mene Ogidi) says she has now lost two sons to police actions in separate incidents.

The latest tragedy occurred on April 26, 2026, when Ogidi was shot dead in Effurun by officers attached to the Effurun Area Command. A widely circulated video showed the young man seated on the ground with his hands and legs tied, pleading for his life (“Wetin I do police?”) before being shot at close range.

According to police accounts, Ogidi was apprehended by transport union members at the Benin Motor Park along the Warri–Sapele Expressway while allegedly attempting to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol and four rounds of ammunition. However, the manner of his death has been widely condemned as extrajudicial.

The Delta State Police Command and the Nigeria Police Force have strongly condemned the incident. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman (also known as Ogbegbe), the team leader who allegedly fired the shot, has been arrested, queried, and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja along with other officers involved.

The Inspector-General of Police has ordered disciplinary proceedings, including possible dismissal and prosecution for murder. The Force described the action as a gross violation of Force Order 237 and standard operating procedures on the use of firearms.

Human rights activist Harrison Gwamnishu visited the bereaved family and shared emotional videos of the mother’s reaction. Overwhelmed with grief, she lamented:

“My two children were killed by the police. They first took my son in 2022, and now they have taken another one from me again.”

She revealed that her first son was arrested from their home in 2022. Police later claimed he died during a shootout, a version the family has questioned. “What exactly did I do to the Nigerian police?” she asked.

The incident has sparked widespread condemnation across Nigeria, with many expressing shock that one mother has lost two sons in similar circumstances. Senator Ede Dafinone (Delta Central) demanded a thorough probe and justice for the family.
