Families across Oyo State are breathing a little easier today after police acted fast to protect a young girl and stop dangerous criminals. On January 15, 2026, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted while simply fetching water from a nearby river in Iseyin. The suspect, 27-year-old Usman Azeez, was arrested the same day, and police say he has already confessed.

Police Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade shared in a statement: “Upon receipt of the report, police operatives promptly mobilised to the scene and ensured the survivor received immediate medical attention. Medical examination confirmed evidence consistent with penetration. The suspect was arrested and is currently in police custody, having reportedly confessed to the offence. Investigation is ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged in court.”
In a separate incident that same week, officers from Ojongbodu Division were on routine patrol along the Oyo-Ibadan Expressway when they spotted two suspicious men on an unregistered motorcycle. The riders fled, but police recovered a locally made revolver pistol, two live rounds of ammunition, an Itel phone, and the bike itself - which turned out to have been stolen at gunpoint. The rightful owner has now been located.
