A tiny two-month-old baby, barely old enough to recognise faces, had already been priced like merchandise at N6 million when Lagos detectives closed in.

On the morning of February 26, 2026, that chain broke in Agege when officers arrested Peace Ifeoma Emeka, 53, ending her brief possession of the child.
Emeka now faces charges related to child trafficking.
Detectives believe she is only one link in a potentially larger network that exploits Nigeria’s chronic baby-selling epidemic, where infants are stolen or bought from impoverished mothers and resold at inflated prices to childless couples willing to pay for silence.
The rescued baby has been moved into protective custody by child welfare authorities as reported on Lindaikeji.
Social workers are providing immediate medical checks while investigators trace the child’s biological mother and any other victims in the chain.
