18-year-old man, Tristan Thomas Roberts, has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his mother, Angela Shellis, after holding her captive in their family home in North Wales.

He was jailed at Mold Crown Court on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, to must serve a minimum of 22 years and six months before he can apply for parole.
Angela, a qualified teacher and teaching assistant, died from blunt force head injuries on 24 October 2025.
Her body was found by a member of the public in undergrowth at Morfa Nature Park in Prestatyn.

Police said Roberts held his mother captive inside their home for more than four hours, physically assaulted her while brandishing a hammer and refused to allow her to leave her bedroom.
CCTV footage showed the pair left the home on foot shortly before 3.20am and walked to the nearby Morfa Nature Park.
At the park, Roberts attacked Angela Shellis with a hammer where she suffered fatal injuries.
Roberts was later seen on CCTV walking home alone before returning to the area, where it is believed he attempted to clean the scene.
During the hearing, the court heard that Roberts recorded the events on a dictaphone, capturing a conversation that lasted more than two hours inside the house.
Angela had asked her son to let her go and to call 999.
After making her put on a balaclava, Roberts told her they would go into town to get medical help, before leading her to a bench at the nature reserve, where he attacked her again.
She is heard screaming in the recording.
Andrew Thomas KC, prosecuting, told the court the attack started the evening before Ms Shellis’s death.
The court heard Roberts began the recording by saying, "This is the moment we’re doing it, we’re going to hit her with a sledgehammer."
Roberts posted messages on the online platform Discord after the killing, "I’ve just had the craziest day" before outlining that he killed his mother.
He said that he had "beat the s*** out of her" and described how he had "smashed her skull in so hard with a sledge hammer."
Last month, Roberts pleaded guilty at Mold Crown Court to murder but he was sentenced this afternoon at the same court.
