Former US Senator, Kyrsten Sinema, has acknowledged in court documents that she had a romantic relationship with, Matthew Ammel, while he was still married, filing a motion asking that the lawsuit brought by his estranged wife, Heather Ammel, be dismissed right away.

The lawsuit reached the courts in North Carolina back in September 2025 as Sinema and her legal team state clearly that the case should not move forward in North Carolina as they explained that the alleged conduct happened inside that state's borders at all.
Matthew and Heather had been married but are now living as an estranged couple.
According to the information in Sinema's court filing, she and Matthew began their romantic relationship during late May of 2024, several months earlier than Matthew's formal separation from Heather Ammel.
The court papers list the first physical encounter between Sinema and Matthew as taking place on May 27 2024 in Sonoma, spanning several meetings and time spent together across multiple cities, including New York City, Washington D.C., Aspen in Colorado and Phoenix in Arizona.
Heather included additional claims in her September 2025 North Carolina lawsuit, claiming Sinema sent romantic messages directly to Matthew Ammel on occasions, when he was physically located in North Carolina.
One specific message reportedly contained a photograph showing Sinema wrapped only in a towel.
Sinema directly addresses those claims in her official response, staing clearly that she did not send any such photograph of herself.
The former senator adds that she had no knowledge of Matthew being in North Carolina even if a message like that existed according to THE WASHINGTON POST.
This lack of awareness forms part of her argument against the case staying in that location, as lawyers working for Kyrsten put strong attention on questions of jurisdiction and court authority. They argue that the North Carolina courts lack power over the matter since every physical meeting occurred in completely different states and cities.
The exact geographic details of each meeting now stand as central facts in deciding the future of this family-related legal action.
