In a moment that left his congregation in stunned silence before erupting into cheers, Senior Pastor Chris Okafor of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries dropped to his knees on the pulpit this Sunday, microphone still in hand, and publicly apologised to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala amid a weeks-long social media firestorm that had already spilled into police stations and court threats.

The dramatic scene unfolded during a live-streamed service, where the popular cleric, known for his fiery sermons and large following, chose vulnerability over defense. The feud had gripped online spaces for days: Ogala accused Okafor of a long-term affair starting in 2017, broken promises of marriage after she allegedly left her previous relationship at his urging, sharing explicit content without consent, and even offering her $10,000 to retract claims that rival pastors hired her to defame him. The controversy escalated dramatically when Ogala was arrested earlier this month over related allegations.
But on this Sunday, the tone shifted. Okafor addressed the packed church with a raw edge in his voice, “Listen, we’re not joining issues. Mistakes have been made in the past, and I tender an apology to everybody. Take note, everything that was said isn’t true. There are so many lies in most of the things that were said."
Then came the direct address. “I am sorry to everyone I have offended, to Doris Ogala also. I say sorry and apologise to everyone that I’ve offended. I’m ready to make a restitution to anyone, anybody, any lady I have offended. I am sorry. Forgive me. Not perfect, I’ve never been perfect.”
In a gesture that caught many off guard, Okafor knelt fully before the congregation. “I’m kneeling down before everyone and before the church. Forgive me. You can judge me. Pray for me.”
For Ogala, the video hit hard. She quickly shared it on her social media, her response mixing relief, forgiveness, and firm resolve.
'Pastor Chris, please don’t kneel. This was all I wanted. Apology accepted. Chris Okafor, I forgive you, but there’s a problem. Where you said everything is a lie. I have a problem with that because I don’t lie,' she wrote.
