- With the verdict set for March 3 2026 many wonder how a simple act of courage turned into such a desperate fight for her own liberty.

Rose had gone to Hong Kong police in early 2024 after meeting a man she first encountered while travelling across Asia.
The man who cannot be named was arrested following her report of rape.
Hours later the tables turned and Rose herself was charged with blackmail and later with perverting the course of public justice.
He denies the allegations and faces no charges at all.
During the trial heard before a judge last year the prosecution alleged Rose asked for five thousand pounds and later demanded one hundred thousand pounds.
Rose denied allegations of blackmail.
She told the court that she was raped and was seeking compensation that was first offered by the man following the alleged sexual assault.
After he was arrested and questioned by police Rose was then accused of blackmailing him.
For nearly two years this lively young traveller has lived on bail unable to work or leave Hong Kong.
Her days blend into one another far from the familiar sounds of east London.
Her loving mother Aysha Bell crossed oceans to stand beside her offering the only comfort she can in this foreign land.
Hong Kong Police said they were unable to provide further comment on her case.
The UK Consulate in Hong Kong said it does not comment on details of individual cases but that it does provide consular assistance to British nationals.
