Association calls for increase in girl-child school enrollment

The Paigokni Development Association in Paiko, Paikoro Local Government Area of Niger, on Wednesday called for an increase in enrollment of the girl-child in public schools in the area.

The President of the association, Amb.Zubairu Dada Dada, made the call in Paiko when the association presented 102 cartons of chalk and 4,200 exercise books to schools in the districts in area.

The benefiting seven districts in the council area are Paiko, Paiko Gaba. Kwakuti Tnutnugo, Gram, Tunga Mallam and Nkuchi. Dada said that the girl-child school enrollment in the area was low and there was the need for every child, including the girl child, to have access to education.

He appealed to parents and guardians to ensure that all their children and wards enrolled in public schools, so that they could have qualitative education. The president said the association would, within its resources, continue to support parents and government to achieve their educational objectives because of the importance education to society.

Dada also urged parents and guardians to contribute their quota to the running of public schools in their domains as government alone could not tackle the problems in the sector.

The Vice Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Prof. Nasiru Maiturare, urged parents to put in place, effective school management committees, to ensure effective running of the schools.

Maiturare said parents and other stakeholders must contribute their quota, through donations and construction of classrooms, libraries and other needed educational facilities.

He said that the best legacy any parent could leave behind for his/her children was education because it was the foundation for attaining greater goals in life.

The vice chancellor said that the university was prepared to collaborate with institutions, groups and individuals in advancing education in the state.
