At Last: Fake Police Officer meets Waterloo after extorting N100,000 from Woman

An imposter’s illegal activity has been uncovered in Kano after a man identified as Yakasai Mohammed was arrested for impersonating as a Police officer and extorted a woman of N100,000 on the ground that the woman’s son will be released from prison.

The report gathered revealed that Mohammed met his Waterloo after residents contacted the Public complaint Rapid Response unit of the Nigeria police on July 27.

Speaking of how the flyer spread around, PCRRU Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Shogunle said the flyers were spread from the helicopter and was written in English, Hausa and Kanuri language.

Speaking of the impersonator’s act, Shogunle said the complainant met a fake policeman, Mohammed in court where he collected N100,000 with an assurance that the son of the complainant will be released from prison but fail to fulfil his promises.

Shogunle said:

“Mohammed was arrested and it was discovered that he is not a police officer or court official but an impostor who goes around courts in the Kano metropolis, pretending to be a police officer and a court worker.”

Having confessed to the crime of extortion, the money was returned to the complainant and Mohammed was also charged to court for prosecution accordingly and remanded in prison custody.

Abayomi Shogunle of the Public Complaint Rapid Response Unit, therefore, urged the public against paying for bail, stressing that it is free.
