Civilians can now report Soldiers as Nigerian Army release complaints call code

Civilians in Nigeria now have the opportunity to report soldiers with wrong conduct on or off duty as The Nigeria Army release call code.

The assurance of quick response to the reports from civilians was given at a workshop on human rights held at the 1Division, Nigeria Army Kaduna by The Director, Civil Military Affairs, Solomon Kumapayi.

He assured that this was done by the Army to ensure full respect for the rights of the civil populace by soldiers as it is practised globally.

He said this has led to a reduction in the cases of alleged human rights violation by soldiers in the last few weeks.

According to Premium Times, Brigadier General Kumapayi said: “We are doing our jobs more professionally and have been responsive to the complaints that we receive.

“The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Tukur Buratai has directed us to go round army formations to sensitize our troops on human rights activities, and their conduct whether on operations or out of operation.’’

“The COAS has set-up a human rights desk at the army headquarters. He has also directed same to be set-up at formation levels at the divisional headquarters.

“It is also to be set-up outside divisional headquarters to allow easy access for the civilian populace to reach us.”

He said the sort code to reach the call centre is 183 and that the call centre can be reached by any network with someone always on the desk to receive complaints.

Mr Kumapayi added that the Army Chief is being briefed daily on the calls that are received and that action will be duly taken as soon as the complaint comes in.

He also said a weekly live programme on Armed Forces Radio will be done for one hour so as to communicate with civilians.
