An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Tuesday remanded a man, Wasiu Oriyomi, in Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a 7-year-old girl.
Oriyomi, whose residential address was not given, was charged for defilement.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. Justice
Rahman Oshodi remanded him in the correctional centre where he was being held.
Oshodi postponed the case until February 22, 2024, when the trial is scheduled to begin.
Previously, Ms. Inumidun Solarin, the state attorney, informed the court that the defendant was purportedly responsible for the offence in August 2022 on Oludele Street, Ikola Odunsi in Ikeja.
Solarin claimed that by engaging in illicit sexual relations with the survivor (name withheld), the defendant defiled her.
The prosecution claimed that the alleged offence violated Lagos State’s 2015 Criminal Laws, Section 137.
Oriyomi risks life imprisonment if convicted.
