Dangers of Cold Water to your Health

by Abbey Lily
There is absolutely nothing as soothing and relaxing as drinking a glass of cold water after being bitten by the scorching sun. However, you may surely have a rethink after reading this article.
It is commonly said that health is wealth, but the reality here is that health is more than wealth. So you must take charge of your health by being intentional about doing what is right for your well-being.
Here are the dangers associated with drinking cold water
1. It slows down hydration
Drinking cold water actually slows down your body’s rehydration process, rather than speeding it up. This is because the body needs to regulate its temperature first before it can use it.
2. It drains energy fast
While drinking cold water can make you feel refreshed and stimulate you in the short term. However, it actually serves to drain your energy in the long run as the body has to use extra energy to warm up the water and bring it up to its average temperature.
3. It slows the heartbeat rate
Drinking cold water can cause your heartbeat rate to drop. This is because there is a nerve in the body that runs down the back of the neck, which is affected by a sudden ingestion of cold water. As an emergency measure, your heart slows down until your body temperature reaches equilibrium once again. Cold water closes 4 veins of the heart and may cause a heart attack.
4. It can cause a headache:
if you have heard about “brain-freeze” before which you get as a result of eating an ice cream or lolly, then you should know that cold water can do the same thing. It chills many sensitive nerves in the spine, and they immediately send messages to the brain, which in turn causes headaches.
5. It interferes with digestion
Drinking cold water disturbs the process of digesting food as it causes your blood vessels to shrink. This can slow down the process of digestion and as the food is not digested properly, the nutrients are lost or not absorbed fully by the body.
Remember, according to Natural Law, our normal body temperature is about 98.6 degrees F. If it is raised by a few degrees, the body starts to show signs of distress, and then fever sets in. The next thing is to try to return the body to normal functioning. When we drink cold water, juice, or any ice-cold fluids, we create the basis for chronic diseases.
